Spatial Analysis: A Look into Self-Care Disabilities in Dallas-Fort Worth
Tools: R, RStudio, ArcGIS Pro, Leaflet
Main Question: "What Percentage of Dallas- Fort Worth has a self-care disability and how has this changed over time?"
Using 5-year American Community Survey data from the US Census Bureau, I wanted to look into patterns of disability data in my hometown of Dallas - Fort Worth. Please see the project site link to see a comprehensive report of the results.
I was able to develop skills working with time-series data in R using the tidycensus package and tidyverse to clean the data into a simplified format appropriate for this level of analysis. I also worked with ArcGIS Pro animations features to create an effective visual showing patterns over time.
Possible Improvements: This report would just be the first step to finding insights in the disability data, and brings up several new questions worth investigating, including:
Does the pattern in South Dallas hold for the other types of disabilities?
How well are the needs of the disabled populations being met?
How do the results in the DFW area compare to other US metro areas?
