Map: National Park Visitors - Northeast Region

Tools: ArcGIS Pro, Adobe Illustrator

Another fun map recreation based on the version by ESRI's Lauren Tierney and inspired by the color and stylings of this Glacier National Park aeroplane map from the David Rumsey Map Collection.

The result is a categorical proportional symbol map that conveys both the number of visitors and the type of parks that are seeing the majority of these visitors. Washington DC data was left off this map because the sheer number of visitors and locations would overwhelm the rest of the map - DC deserves its own inset or completely separate map.

Possible Improvements: I neglected to add the finishing touches to give the map an antique, beaten-up texture. Also, the folded paper texture was fun to experiment with but doesn't serve a realistic purpose for this particular map. I would love the chance to create a multi-panel road atlas-style layout that is intended to be folded - Like this vintage Shell Oil map of Alabama or the original inspiration from Glacier NP.
